Tan Thang commune (Quynh Luu district, Nghe An province) is considered the pineapple granary of Nghe An with an area of nearly 1,500 hectares, accounting for over 75% of the income of the agricultural sector. In which, pineapples are newly planted 865 hectares. Currently, there are nearly 620 hectares being harvested with 2 main pineapple varieties, Queen and MD2.

In 2024, the pineapple production of Tan Thang commune will be about 26,000 tons. Currently, there are about 500 pineapple farming households in the commune with an income of 200 million VND/ha. In recent years, pineapple has been considered a key crop, directly bringing stable economic efficiency to growers.

At this time, pineapples are in the harvest season. The main season pineapple meets the standard with a weight of 0.8-1.2kg. Currently, pineapples are purchased at the garden for 7,500 – 8,500 VND/kg. On average, each hectare minus the cost for income from 120-150 million VND/ha, all farmers are excited.

Mr. Phan Tien Dung – Secretary of Tan Thang commune shared, this year the pineapple output as well as the price are higher than in previous years, making people very excited because the harvest is at a good price. This is an advantage that Tan Thang commune must continue to maintain, continue to make pineapple trees a key crop, develop the local economy.

Pineapples are exported without worrying about output, farmers are very secure, increasing production.

Mr. Duong Dinh Duc (residing in Tan Thang commune) currently owns more than 5 hectares of pineapples being harvested, achieving high yield and outstanding quality. According to the company’s purchase price, it is expected that after this crop, Mr. Duc’s family will earn about 1.2 billion VND, excluding costs, which can make a profit of more than half.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh (resident of Tan Thang commune) excitedly shared: “The increase in pineapple prices for about 2 years has made pineapple growers like us very excited, increasing production and reassuring because they do not have to worry about output as before”.

On average, each hectare of pineapple minus all costs, giving an income of 120-150 million VND.

In addition to selling to traders, in Tan Thang commune, there are currently 2 cooperatives (cooperatives) and 2 limited liability companies specializing in pineapple production as well as responsible for linking and consuming high-quality pineapples for supermarkets and exports. Thanks to stable output, people do not have to worry about the reality of “losing the season, losing the season” as before. This is an important premise for households to boldly invest and apply advanced farming methods to improve productivity and product quality towards the export market.

Mr. Dau Phi Canh – Director of AE TA Agricultural Cooperative said: “This year, our cooperative is expected to purchase about 1,000 tons of pineapples in the cooperative and neighboring people, including export and consumption at clean stores. For fruits that do not meet the standards, we will make products such as dried pineapples, pineapple juice.

This year’s pineapple price has increased compared to previous years, the yield and market are stable, so farmers are very happy.”
