Chickens are healthy, grow fast, and lay eggs, thanks to raising on biological mattresses
Chickens raised on thick and healthy biological mattresses, grow quickly, and lay eggs without polluting the environment, helping people in Nam Dan district (Nghe An) solve many problems and obstacles in breeding, increase income, and develop the economy.
As a small farmer living in a residential area, the chicken care of people in Nam Dan district (Nghe An province) often faces many obstacles, especially environmental sanitation. Previously, the stench from the waste of chickens made farmers afraid to go to the barn area because of the stench, affecting the lives of many people around.

Chickens are raised on thick biological mattresses, which both bring economic efficiency to people and do not pollute the environment.
In the past few years, people in Xuan Hong commune (former Xuan Lam commune, Nam Dan district) have been trained in the technique of raising chickens on thick biological mattresses, which are both suitable for breeding conditions and have completely solved obstacles, so many households have applied them in practice.
The family of Ms. Bui Thi Thuy (53 years old, residing in Xuan Hong commune) is one of the first households to participate in this model. Ms. Thuy has “verified” right at her family’s chicken coop by dividing the area of the cage in half, one side applies thick biological cushions, the other side raises in the traditional form. In the first batch of chickens, Ms. Thuy is confident with the practical effect from the model of raising thick bio-cushioned chickens.

Ms. Thuy shared about the model of raising chickens on thick biological mattresses.
“The chickens are raised on a thick and healthy biological mattress, grow quickly, have higher meat quality, and lay eggs evenly. Chickens raised in the traditional way often suffer from common diseases such as pasteurellosis, respiratory diseases, enlarged eyes, and a higher mortality rate leading to low productivity,” Ms. Thuy shared.
To raise chickens with this model, people can take advantage of some types of waste and by-products in the agricultural production process such as straw, rice, rice husks, etc. spread throughout the cage like a cushion. Thanks to the biological mattress, the waste products from the chickens can decompose, do not cause a bad smell, and do not affect the lives of the surrounding people. Biodegradable bedding after decomposition can be a very good fertilizer for plants. This model not only helps Ms. Thuy’s family solve obstacles in livestock, but also ensures environmental sanitation and increases income.
Each litter, Ms. Thuy’s family raises from 80 to 100 commercial chickens and dozens of chickens for eggs.
“Commercial chickens raised on thick biological mattresses have high meat quality, so they are often sold higher than the market price, the output is stable, and there are always people who order in advance. The egg laying rate of chickens is also much higher than that of traditional chickens,” Ms. Thuy excitedly shared.
The cost of making thick biological cushions is low and highly effective, so poultry farming households in Xuan Hong commune come to Ms. Thuy’s family to learn, apply to livestock and economic development.
Ms. Trinh Thi Thuy – Chairwoman of the Farmers’ Association of Xuan Hong commune, Nam Dan district, Nghe An shared, in fact, the model of raising chickens on thick bio-bedding is low-cost, very suitable for local conditions. In particular, in Xuan Hong commune, where there are many small farmers, poultry flocks are raised near residential areas, thick bio-bedding has become an effective solution, both helping to reduce environmental pollution and improve economic efficiency.
In the coming time, the Farmers’ Association of Xuan Hong commune will continue to replicate the model in the area, building a green, clean and beautiful agriculture, helping people increase their income./.
