ESG Education & Business Announces Phase 1 Results: Agricultural Emission Reduction Program for Low-Carbon Pepper Products in Collaboration with Pearl Agrigroup

Dak Nong, December 13, 2023 – ESG Education & Business is pleased to announce the Phase 1 results of its collaboration with Pearl Agrigroup on an ambitious roadmap for agricultural emission reduction, with a particular focus on low-carbon pepper products.

This program represents a pioneering effort to meet the increasingly stringent requirements of global supply chains, contributing meaningfully toward sustainable development goals.

1. Emissions Inventory Based on the GHG Protocol

As part of the initiative, ESG Education & Business conducted a comprehensive greenhouse gas emissions inventory in accordance with the GHG Protocol across Pearl Agrigroup’s cultivation areas. The measurement activities included:

  • Fertilizer and electricity use during cultivation
  • Emissions from processing and factory operations
  • Fuel consumption from transport vehicles
  • CO₂ absorption capacity of crops such as coffee, pepper, macadamia, durian, and avocado

2. Carbon Footprint Calculation for 1kg of Pepper

ESG Education & Business calculated the carbon footprint of 1kg of pepper, covering the entire production process and establishing a standard baseline for emissions.

Phase 1 reduction results:
After six months of close monitoring and implementation of strict management practices, the carbon footprint was reduced by 36% compared to the baseline. Among the contributing factors, fertilizer management had the largest impact, accounting for 44% of the total emissions reduction.

3. 2025–2030 Sustainability & ESG Goals

3.1. Environmental Goals:

We have set clear emissions reduction targets:

Additional goals include wastewater treatment, adoption of renewable energy (e.g., solar-powered drying and production), and the application of new technologies for emission reduction, waste and byproduct processing, and sustainable agriculture

50% reduction from the baseline by the end of 2027

80% reduction by 2030

Achieve Net Zero by 2040

3.2. Social Impact:

Beyond emission reductions, we have implemented training programs and social impact monitoring in the project area. Soil analysis has shown significant improvements in chemical balance and ecological indicators.

Additionally, a roadmap has been developed to improve income and livelihoods for workers and local residents within the project area.

We fully recognize the challenges along the path to emission reduction. However, these results serve as a testament to the strong commitment of ESG Education & Business and our partner, Pearl Agrigroup, in meeting the sustainability standards of the global supply chain.
